Methods of Student Evaluation and Expectations:
Participation, Chapter exams, Article Reviews, Midterm and Final Tests. I expect high quality in all that you do. All assignments are prerequisites to getting a good grade. No late work is accepted. Tests: Chapter exams will cover the current material. There will be comprehensive time-limited Midterm and Final exam. Tests will only be allowed to be made-up for extraordinary circumstances. In such cases the tests must be made up within one calendar week or will result in a zero (0) score. Participation is important with occasional in-class only assignments issued.
Final grades will be calculated as follows. NOTE : Late work results in 10% grade reduction for each day it is late.
- Average of all Discussions/In-Class work 20%
- Average of all Review Q’s/Exercises/Projects 50%
- Average of all Exams/Critical Thinking Cases 30%
Letter grades will be issued according the following scale: 100-90 = A; 89-80 =B; 79-70 = C; 60-69 = D; 59 = F.
Attendance Policy:
According to the IECC handbook, regular class attendance is necessary if a student is to receive maximum benefits from the course. Attendance is taken at each class meeting and is figured into your grade. Arrive late after class has started, and I may count you being absent for the day as well as if you sit during class time on your phone/laptop not participating, I may also count you absent. Emergency situations deem meeting with instructor. If you are sick or know you will be absent, email me to see what is missed that day.
Academic Integrity:
Students are expected to complete their own work. Turning in another person’s efforts as your own will result in the following disciplinary action. Poor student conduct may result in the request to leave the class and administration may be notified. All students are expected to comply with IECC rules and regulations on academic integrity and honesty. Violations of these rules and regulations will result in zero points on the assignment and/or exam in question. Additional disciplinary actions may be imposed. A student who feels that he/she has been wrongly accused may follow the complaint procedures on the school complaint website at https://www.iecc.edu/studentcomplaint
In compliance with the Student Religious Observances Policy and Procedure (500.34), IECC will reasonably accommodate the religious observances of individual students regarding class attendance and scheduling of examinations. Students must notify IECC instructors in writing by the second week of the term of anticipated date(s) of absences due to religious observances if the absence affects participation in class or completion of examinations. For courses that are offered outside the regular 16‐week schedule, contact the Records Office to determine the notification period. It is the student’s responsibility to make up any required coursework or activity.
Statement on Generative Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence (AI) is a powerful tool that impacts our daily lives and various industries, including education. However, though helpful, AI is not meant to become the writer or author of an assignment. Students should not allow technology to take over their voices, ideas, and words. As established in policy and further defined in the Student Code of Conduct, improper or unapproved use of Artificial Intelligence is prohibited and subject to disciplinary action (unless we are covering it in class).
Student Conduct:
Common courtesy is an extremely important trait in the business world, a minimum requirement for getting and keeping most jobs. Using common courtesy in college is good practice for the real world. The most basic idea is to not disrupt your classmates, or your instructor, during class. So, please avoid behavior like: habitually coming to class late; maintaining steady conversation with neighbors during lecture; taking (or making!) calls/texts on your cell phone. Violations may result with disciplinary action.
Special Needs:
It is Olney Central College’s policy to provide reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities. If you would like to request academic support services due to a physical, mental, or learning disability, please contact your instructor or the Learning Skills Center in conference room four, EXT. 2264 or EXT. 2265.
NOTE: Tests are meant to be taken without text materials unless stated by instructor. If it is suspected that you are utilizing other materials, the situation will be addressed. Please see the Academic Integrity portion of the syllabus for more information.
